HEAD COACH – Sprint Canoe & Kayak

The RHCC is inviting applications for our Head Coach from experienced professional head coaches, assistant coaches or retired National Team athletes with a solid foundation in coaching and who wish to make coaching their career. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will be responsible for training and performance improvement of all athletes, supervision and mentorship of coaching staff, growth of the club and day-to-day operations and safety. If you are passionate about Canoe Kayak, and enjoy motivating athletes and developing junior coaches, this is the job for you!


  • Guide the development of all competitive club athletes to reach their highest performance potential with individual planning, monitoring and feedback.
  • Grow the capability and confidence of assistant coaches to provide exceptional coaching.
  • Design and implement training programs, year-round, for all competitive athletes, based on Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) guidelines. Directly coach the two highest level youth groups. Supervise and support training for other groups through assistant coaches.
  • Grow the club by creating a motivating, positive environment to recruit and retain youth athletes.
  • Daily operation of the club including supervision and safety of all competitive and recreational programming.
  • Communication with paddlers and parents.
  • Annual regatta planning by training group; co-ordinate regatta and training camp logistics including transportation and if necessary, accommodation. Enroll parents, paddlers and the board to assist with execution of your plans. Liaise with WOD, OCSRA and CKC to facilitate planning.


  • Positive and enthusiastic. Proven leadership and organizational skills.
  • Experience coaching high performance athletes, with a track record of performance success.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with solid written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the Sprint Racing discipline of Canoe Kayak in Canada.


  • ELCC Advanced or equivalent. Ideally Competition Development Certification or working towards it.
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).
  • Current CPR, First Aid and NLS/ Lifeguarding. Please include current qualifications/LSS Verification code in your application.
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Licence.
  • Minimum 3 years coaching experience with High Performance athletes.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence in good standing.

2019 Summer Camp Coordinator

Under the direction of the Board-of-Directors (BOD) and head coach, the Camp Program Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of off water camp activities. The successful candidate will develop and deliver a quality outdoor program utilizing the surrounding environment and facilities. The candidate will also be responsible for various administrative tasks, including ordering supplies, coordinating schedules, completing all necessary reports and communicating with parents and camp staff/volunteers.

This is a season position commencing in June 2019 through to August 2019.


    • Plan and implement daily activities and oversee general camp operations
    • Create an alternative plan for inclement weather
    • Develop programs to ensure a quality camp experience
    • Assist in hiring and handling of staffing
    • Prepare attendance list and track attendance
    • Maintain accurate program and administrative records
    • Ensure the site is kept clean, organized and free of litter
    • Be responsible for knowing, understanding, communicating, and executing a camp policies and emergency procedures associated with the camp
    • Interact effectively with the staff, BOD, Head Coach with campers’ best interest in mind
    • Communicate effectively with parents and address concerns in a timely manner. Seek the help of BOD and Head Coach as needed
    • Work with special events, promotional and other duties as required


    • Completed a post-secondary Recreation and Leisure Services diploma, or equivalent
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children or in a related field
    • CPR & Standard first aid certified and up-to-date
    • High Five Certified
    • Completion of CKC CanoeKids certification upon hire
    • Demonstrate knowledge of practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to youth/child athletics
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills
    • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities
    • Minimum swim level: Bronze Cross, NLS Preferred
    • Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Screening
    • Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card

    Richmond Hill Canoe Club is a Sprint Canoe and Kayak Racing Club, part of the Western Ontario Division (WOD) within OCSRA and CKC. We are a non-profit organization operated by an elected board of volunteers. The club was founded in 1991 and trains at Lake Wilcox. Our mission is to produce high performance athletes, and we have been successful in producing national and international level athletes. We also foster the sport of Canoe Kayak within our community, through our youth and adult recreational programs.
