Assistant Coaches (ad hoc hours) - APPLICATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED, UNTIL APRIL 30TH, 2018.

 There will be some additional ad hoc assistant coaching positions available, which could be filled by competitive paddlers.  These could consist of only a few hours a week.  Possible work includes additional camp staffing on busy weeks, an assistant for Summer Institute paddlers, and/or  recreational weekend programming.  The pay rate is $15-$16/hour.  Preferred qualifications for these roles includes Canoe Kids, experience working with children, pleasure craft operator's card (required), vulnerable sector screening (prior to starting), and strong swimming and first aid skills (NLS or Bronze Cross + Emergency First Aid +CPR).  Please submit your resume to by April 30th, 2018 if you would like to be considered for these positions. 

Assistant Coach -  We are still accepting applications 

The Richmond Hill Canoe Club (RHCC) is hiring an Assistant Coach. RHCC was established over 25 years ago and has a strong competitive sprint racing history with many National Champions and National Team members as well as an Olympian.  Many of our U17 athletes have won medals at the National Championships, and qualified for the international Olympic Hopes Regatta. 

The Assistant Coach will report to the Head Coach and work together on programming for the training groups.  The Assistant Coach will directly coach the beginner youth paddlers (Racing Development / Intermediate group) and may coach the less-experienced Masters paddlers.  There may also be some coverage of the Advanced or High Performance youth groups.

Experience with teaching kayaking and canoeing at the beginner and intermediate level is strongly preferred. The ability to work with and motivate a wide range of athletes from youth to adult in a positive environment is essential. Responsibilities will include planning workouts and running practices both on water and dry land. The Assistant Coach will also attend regattas with paddlers in their programs.

Hours are approximately 30 hours per week May through September.

The number of hours and the scheduling of the hours can possibly be flexible depending on the Assistant Coach’s availability.

Pay will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Expected range is $16 - $19 / hour

Qualifications and Skills:

·         ELCC Certification

·         Previous coaching experience

·         CPR, Standard First Aid certification

·         Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card

·         Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Screening

·         Current National Lifeguard Service certification is preferred.

2018 Summer Camp Coordinator - Applications are closed for this role for 2018.  This is left up only as a sample of the types of jobs that the club hires for, many summers. 

Under the direction of the Board-of-Directors (BOD) and head coach, the Camp Program Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of off water camp activities. The successful candidate will develop and deliver a quality outdoor program utilizing the surrounding environment and facilities. The candidate will also be responsible for various administrative tasks, including ordering supplies, coordinating schedules, completing all necessary reports and communicating with parents and camp staff/volunteers. 


• Plan and implement daily activities and oversee general camp operations 

• Create an alternative plan for inclement weather 

• Develop programs to ensure a quality camp experience 

• Assist in hiring and handling of staffing 

• Prepare attendance list and track attendance 

• Maintain accurate program and administrative records 

• Ensure the site is kept clean, organized and free of litter 

• Be responsible for knowing, understanding, communicating, and executing a camp policies and emergency procedures associated with the camp 

• Interact effectively with the staff, BOD, Head Coach with campers’ best interest in mind 

• Communicate effectively with parents and address concerns in a timely manner. Seek the help of BOD and Head Coach as needed 

• Work with special events, promotional and other duties as required 


• Completed a post-secondary Recreation and Leisure Services diploma, or equivalent 

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children or in a related field 

• CPR & Standard first aid certified and up-to-date • High Five Certified 

• Completion of CKC CanoeKids certification upon hire

• Demonstrate knowledge of practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to youth/child athletics 

• Strong interpersonal communication skills 

• Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities 

• Minimum swim level: Bronze Cross, NLS Preferred

• Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Screening 

• Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card
