2019 Summer Camp Coordinator

Under the direction of the Board-of-Directors (BOD) and head coach, the Camp Program Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of off water camp activities. The successful candidate will develop and deliver a quality outdoor program utilizing the surrounding environment and facilities. The candidate will also be responsible for various administrative tasks, including ordering supplies, coordinating schedules, completing all necessary reports and communicating with parents and camp staff/volunteers.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement daily activities and oversee general camp operations

  • Create an alternative plan for inclement weather

  • Develop programs to ensure a quality camp experience

  • Assist in hiring and handling of staffing

  • Prepare attendance list and track attendance

  • Maintain accurate program and administrative records

  • Ensure the site is kept clean, organized and free of litter

  • Be responsible for knowing, understanding, communicating, and executing a camp policies and emergency procedures associated with the camp

  • Interact effectively with the staff, BOD, Head Coach with campers’ best interest in mind

  • Communicate effectively with parents and address concerns in a timely manner. Seek the help of BOD and Head Coach as needed

  • Work with special events, promotional and other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a  post-secondary Recreation and Leisure Services diploma, or equivalent

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children or in a related field

  • CPR & Standard first aid certified and up-to-date

  • Demonstrate knowledge of practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to youth/child athletics

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills

  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities

  • Minimum swim level: Bronze Cross, NLS Preferred

  • Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Screening

  • Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card

Richmond Hill Canoe Club is a Sprint Canoe and Kayak Racing Club, part of the Western Ontario Division (WOD) within OCSRA and CKC. We are a non-profit organization operated by an elected board of volunteers. The club was founded in 1991 and trains at Lake Wilcox. Our mission is to produce high performance athletes, and we have been successful in producing national and international level athletes. We also foster the sport of Canoe Kayak within our community, through our youth and adult recreational programs.
