Junior

Junior is another  high performance group available to more experienced athletes that have been selected by the Head Coach based on their commitment, drive, ability and performance.


In addition to Region, Provincial and National Championships, these athletes attend National Team Trials and several have been chosen to represent Canada at International competitions.  

The program includes intensive work with the Head Coach to develop short and long term goals under a training program designed by the Head Coach for them.  Athletes will be involved in a competitive group dynamic where they can push each other to be their best.

The training program will include:
  • Twice daily on water training sessions (April - October); weights and running
  • Dry-land training with Weights and Ergometer  (through the winter months)
  • Cross Training in winter e.g. Swimming/ Spinning / Paddle Pool (through the winter months)
  • Technical advice from the Head Coach
  • Social activities
  • Video analysis

The facility and all equipment will be available six days a week, at times designated by the Head Coach. Athletes involved in the High Performance and Junior programs are expected to attend all practices and training camps as required by the Head Coach.



TRAINING PROGRAM – SPRING / SUMMER

  • There are 10 practices per week 
  • There may be additional group boat practices in the summer - these will be determined by Head Coach      according to pairings and paddler availability. 
  • This group will be coached by the Head Coach (Helen Savin)
  • Full participation is expected and athletes must meet the standards set by the Head Coach
  • Participation in this program is at the discretion of the Head Coach 
  • All team boat paddler assignments are determined by the Head Coach
  • Regatta participation is mandatory. Extenuating circumstances (injury/illness) will be considered.

Fee: $1515   (May - Oct)

This includes all fees except race entry fees and a contribution to NTT travel costs (if attending).

Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri > 6:00 a.m. - 7:30 a.m.
Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri >         4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. 
Saturday >                            7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.

July & August Schedule
Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri >   7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri >          3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. 
Saturday >                               7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.

NOTE: There is a 2-week break from training after Nationals in late August.

Volunteering

  • There is a mandatory contribution of 15 volunteer hours for each High Performance or Junior Paddler
