Racing Development

Racing Development training group is designed for youth from age 10+.  All children are welcome, as the program is for both experienced and inexperienced paddlers and introduces children to the sport of sprint canoeing and kayaking.  Participants will learn to paddle canoes and kayaks: singles (K1, C1), doubles (K2, C2), fours (K4, C4), and War Canoe (C15).  All new youth paddlers begin in this group.

The group meets 5 days a week, with an option for 3 days a week for our younger and newer members.

This group is led by one of our Assistant Coaches during the on-water paddling season.

All athletes have the opportunity to compete in several local regattas. The U11 & U13 season culminates in the Western Ontario Division (WOD) U11/U13 Championships, while U13 and U15 paddlers have the opportunity to race at the main WOD Championships and Provincial Championships (qualification necessary).

The Racing Development Program includes:
  • On-water instruction and training; all equipment included
  • Individual and team activities
  • Water safety
  • Social activities
  • Local regattas (there is a small additional cost for regatta entries)
When ready, the Head Coach will move paddlers up to higher skilled groups.
